Tour 1: Culture of the Indian
You will visit the Cherokee Indian Museum to experience Cherokee history told through computer generated animation and special effects, life size figures, artwork and priceless artifacts. Oconalftee Indian Village is next on this tour where you can experience craft demonstrations by award-winning artists and meet historical Cherokee people in the living history section. Bring your money to shop Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc. Take home hand-crafted artwork while admiring the beautiful art gallery. Here you will make your own Corn Silk doll!
Tour 2: Smoky Mountain Disc Golf
The Fire Mountain Disc Golf Sanctuary was built by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The 18-hole championship-caliber course winds through a 20-acre parcel that abuts the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The gold layout is sure to challenge the most skilled disc golfer while the red layout offers shorter drives.
Tour 3: Waterfall Hike
You will visit Mingo Falls and Soco Falls. Mingo Falls is 120 feet tall and is one of the tallest and most spectacular in the southern Appalachians. The hike to waterfalls is .4 miles but considered moderate in difficulty. Soco Falls is a beautiful double waterfall. It is part of the very important Soco Gap that today sits inside the Qualla Boundary. Its significance is due to the geological formation that the tribe used as the boundary’s main entrance from the North and East. This tour is now scheduled to arrive back at Harrah’s at 2:40.
Tour 4: Franklin, NC Antiques to Gem Stones
Franklin, North Carolina is a classic slice of Small Town America. Let’s have lunch in the Motor Co. Grill, a 50’s themed restaurant! Next we will wander Main Street and beyond to shop for antiques, mountain-made items, art, and look in on the museums, Scottish, historical, and Gem Stones. To end this tour, we find ourselves at Gold City, a gem mine where you hope you’ll strike the “big one” because, after all, Franklin is known as the “gem capital of the world.” We should arrive at Harrah’s by 5:30.
